Social Skills Program
(Connect with Me)
Connect with Me is a social skills training program designed to meet the needs of school age clients, beginning at 3 1/2 years of age, who have deficits in the area of social development, secondary to other developmental disabilities. Schools, service coordinators, and professionals who have worked with the special needs of these clients can make referrals.
The purpose for this program is to:
1. Provide clients with functional tools to improve their social skills.
2. Teach clients with verbal phrases to maintain social contact with others.
3. Improve clients’ ability to recognize emotions and to teach appropriate reactions to the emotions.
4. Teach clients appropriate social interaction with adults/children based on their ability.
5. Provide demonstration to the parents on how to interact with the clients.
6. Give parents ideas about how to entice the clients to interact with peers of their own age.
7. Give parents suggestions on extracurricular activities to provide clients with more opportunities to interact with peers.
Our goal is that through intensive training our clients will be able to make improvements in the following areas:
1. Eye contact
2. Interaction with adults
3. Interaction with peers of own age
4. Understanding of emotions
5. Taking initiatives to interact with others
6. Appropriate body language
7. Interpret body language
8. Interpret social situations
9. Interpret social stories
10. Decision making
Operating Schedule:
Connect with Me is a one time a week, 2 hour per session program. The sessions run from 3:45PM to 5:45PM Tuesdays ~ Fridays and from 9:00AM to 11:00AM on Saturdays.
